Adoptive Families: Kathy

Dear Birthparents,Kathy

Hello! My name is Kathy. I am thankful and blessed to have the opportunity to share a little bit about myself with you. Although a letter can never fully explain who I am or what I have to offer, I hope this gives you some insights into my life, and what I will be able to offer a child. I thank you for taking time to read about me.

kathyI live in the Austin area. I grew up the eldest of two daughters, in a strong, close-knit family. My parents and grandparents still live in the town I grew up in, and my sister and brother-in-law and their two children live in Houston. I am “owned” by four great pets: 2 fabulous Labrador Retrievers and 2 loving cats. My entire family is excited about welcoming a new baby into our midst!

kathyI love learning and growing. In terms of my academic education, I graduated from high school, college, and graduate school. I want my child to love learning as well, and to come to know it as a joy! I want him or her to experience as many things in the world as possible, to ask good questions, to enjoy discovery, and to be excited about growing and learning as a person. I want him or her to become who they truly are, to be their own person, and to love others as they are loved.

I am a Presbyterian minister, which means that I work and serve in the church. My current tasks involve working with a camp and conference center and the ministries that take place there (like summer camp for kids, as well as retreats and gatherings for adults). My child will grow up as a loved and cherished part of my extended family. But he or she will also grow up in the church, loved by countless faithful Christians who know that it does indeed take a village to raise a child. He or she will have ample opportunity to spend time outdoors, which is something I’m grateful for – to have the chance to learn about nature, creation, and the gifts of the earth.

I work hard, but I also love to play! I play tennis and golf, but I also like to sail (really, I enjoy anything in/on the water). I love to cook, read, write poetry, work on craft projects around the house and work in the yard. I’m always up for a good movie, and I like spending time with my friends.

I have chosen to pursue adoption because my desire to be a parent and to raise a child has continued to grow… to where I now feel like even as a single person, adopting a child and becoming a mom is something that I cannot not do. I believe that I have many things to offer a child, and that I would be welcoming him or her into a loving, faithful, and supportive home. I look forward to nurturing a child, and helping him or her grow into a responsible, loving, and healthy adult.

I want my child – your child, our child – to know the story behind his/her adoption, as well as any background information I might have about you, their birthparents. I will be open and available to my child as he or she ask questions about their adoption, or when they want to learn more about their birth family. I am willing to communicate with you throughout the child’s life, sharing updates, letters, and photos with you.

You have my utmost respect and admiration. I cannot imagine how difficult it is to come to a decision to place your baby for adoption. Whatever your reasons, your decision to do this shows me that you are able to act with great, sacrificial love, a greater love than most of us can ever imagine.

You have my respect and my humble gratitude; thank you for letting me be part of your life in this way. My thoughts and prayers are with you as you strive to make the best possible decision for your child. If you would like more information, or if you would like to meet me, please call Presbyterian Children’s Homes and Services Adoption Services at 1-800-543-2229 or 713-522-2800.

With love,
Kathy
