Assistant Family Teacher (Duncanville)
Position Summary:
The Assistant Family Teacher assists in the implementation of the Teaching-Family Model program in the group home setting and the coordination of services to each individual child and family and provide assistance to and respite for the Family Teacher couple. Must be able to live in a licensed group home facility, providing coverage for children placed in that home for extended periods of time.
Essential Job Functions:
- Must receive extensive training in the implementation of the Teaching Family Model and apply it to the implementation of individualized treatment.
- Must be able to actively engage in activities associated with applied behavior analysis and individualized treatment strategies.
- Must be able to move about indoors and outdoors in order to adequately monitor youth behavior and activities in accordance with children’s individual needs.
- Must be physically able to assist children with daily activities, therapeutic recreation, and leisure activities commensurate with their developmental stages.
- Teaches children a curriculum of social, self-help, independent living, academic and maintenance skills.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Assists the Family Teacher couple in supervising the day to day routine of the group home.
- Assists in group home staff selection.
- Assists in training other Family Teachers and foster parents.
- Models appropriate moral, ethical, and professional behaviors and values for children, families, colleagues, and the community-at-large.
Working Conditions:
- Must be able to work extended hours when necessary.
- May be required to provide awake night staffing in emergency situations.
- Must regularly be on call for the group home children during off periods of time when children are not present in the home.
- Work environment is high energy, high stress. The position may experience verbal and or physical aggression from client population.
- Moderate risk of exposure to infectious diseases.
Job Requirements:
- A Bachelor’s Degree in a Human Services field from an accredited college or university is preferred.
- A minimum of a high school diploma is required, plus one or more years of experience in working with children or youth.
- Must be a minimum of 21 years of age.
- Must have a valid Texas Driver’s License, a reliable vehicle, and proof of insurance for the vehicle.
Skills:
- Must be well organized and self motivated.
- Must be able to prioritize and be accountable for timelines, to complete projects in a timely manner.
- Must have excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Must demonstrate the ability to work harmoniously with others as members of a treatment team.
