Relief Home Parents (Itasca)
Position Summary:
The relief home parent couple provides direct care services for the children in placement at Presbyterian Children’s Homes and Services.
Essential Job Functions:
- Provide 24-hour, 7-day-a-week coverage for children placed in a foster group home for extended periods of time.
- Within the assigned residence, establish and perpetuate a homelike environment which includes both behavioral and emotional warmth and acceptance.
- Insure the physical safety and well being of children in agency care and promote their spiritual, emotional, intellectual, and social growth and development.
- Supervise daily living habits of children, training new skills as necessary or desirable.
- Assign, train, and supervise children in household tasks.
- Supervise children in various activities both on and off the Itasca campus, in cooperation with other staff members, assist in chaperoning or sponsoring off-campus activities.
- Plan and supervise preparation of meals served in the residence.
- Participate actively in case planning and service implementation for each child living in the assigned area.
- Maintain daily behavior logs, agency reports, medication documentation, financial records, and reports, and menus of meals served.
- Provide transportation for children to and from planned activities using agency vehicles, including passenger cars and 15 passenger vans.
- Work cooperatively with other staff; participate in campus programs and committees as assigned.
- Schedule is 15 days on duty and six days off.
Job Requirements:
- Minimum education - high school graduate, one or more years post high school education preferred.
- Two years previous experience with children preferred.
Job Requirements:
- Good organizational and time management skills required.
- Must have strong interpersonal and parenting skills.
- Must be computer literate and able to operate financial, word processing, and database software within six months of hire.
