Relief Home Parents - Weekend Relief (Austin)

Position Summary:

Part-time, position for an employee to participate as members of a therapeutic team to provide child guidance, monitoring of behavior and full responsibility as the acting parent for the care and well-being of up to six children and youth in a home setting. Will work every other weekend with some flexibility. Shift begins at 6:00 p.m. on Friday and ends on Sunday at 6:00 p.m.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Provide for the comprehensive care of children in placement.
  • Provide a clean and orderly home environment in which children assist and take pride in maintaining.
  • Model and insure physical well-being and promote spiritual, emotional, intellectual and social growth of children in care.
  • Plan and prepare nutritious meals and snacks, with the assistance of children in care when appropriate.
  • Plan and supervise daily routine taking into consideration individual schedules and activities.
  • Meet with and make transition notes for staff when leaving for or returning from days off.

Working Conditions:

  • Job entails acting as a parent of up to six foster teen-aged youth and children.
  • Highly emotional setting at times.
  • Must be prepared to intervene as appropriate to the situation.
  • Possible emergency situations and crisis intervention.
  • Meal preparation using kitchen appliances such as mixer, blender, stove, oven, etc.

Job Requirements:

  • Education and Experience: A Bachelor’s Degree in a Human Services field from an accredited college or university is preferred; A minimum of high school diploma is required.
  • Required to be a minimum of 21 years of age.
  • Prefer some prior experience working with children and youth in care.
  • Licenses and Certifications: If not previously attained, Agency will provide training in these areas: CPR/1st Aid, Medications training, tuberculosis screening, Crisis Intervention training (CPI), and Van driving.
  • Additional 20 hours per year of job-related training will be provided throughout employment.


Schedule is 2 weekends per month with some flexibility.
