Our Programs: Houston
With help from St. John’s Presbyterian Church, Houston became one of the initial sites for the PCHAS Child & Family Program in 2000. In 2007, with support from Memorial Drive Presbyterian Church, PCHAS established a second program in Houston.
Both programs help families in Harris County and beyond deal with a variety of situations that threaten family stability. Often, families need help as they face a crisis such as death, divorce, illness, violence, homelessness, alcohol/drug abuse and other situations. The Child and Family Program addresses these issues while working to keep families together. We help remove the barriers that can prevent families from receiving the services they need.
Child & Family Specialists Michelle O'Neill and Nimia Tillmann offer a variety of resources for for parents and children in the community, including counseling, information and referrals to other agencies.
Through a merger effective January 1, 2010, the Homes of St. Mark, a well-known charitable children's services agency in Houston, became a division of PCHAS.The Homes of St. Mark program serves:
- children who have been removed from their parents and placed in foster and foster-to-adopt homes
- children and birth families through our maternity program, in which children are voluntarily placed for adoption, and provide post-adoption services for adult adopted children
- families seeking to adopt children, with orientation, training and support groups
- adults who were adopted through post adoption services such as search and reunions.
