Volunteer Needs

The following are requests from our programs for volunteers with specific skills. If you're interested in helping meet one of these needs, send an email toVolunteer Ministries Coordinator Nancy Mossman.

Male Mentors (Waxahachie)
Male mentors are needed to volunteer their time with pre-teen and teenage boys who live on the PCHAS residential campus in Waxahachie. The role of the mentor is to establish a trusting and long-term relationship with one boy and with the houseparents and home supervisor. The requirements are that the prospective volunteer participate in the volunteer application and training process. Click here to help or call 800-888-1904

Tutors (Itasca)

The Itasca Campus is located in a rural area about 10 miles north of Hillsboro, Texas. There is a pressing need for tutorial help for a number of kids needing to master basic educational skills, and there is also a need for tutors who can address special problems such as geometry, chemistry, and other more advanced subjects. Volunteers could provide services late afternoons, early evenings or on weekends. For more information, please contact the volunteer ministries coordinator at nancy.mossman@pchas.org.

Child and Family Program Volunteers (Dallas)
The Dallas Child and Family Program, located in central Dallas, is recruiting adults to help with projects like these:

  • Mentoring young teens on juvenile probation
  • Helping facilitate groups to young girls in local juvenile jail
  • Help facilitate parenting groups and Family Time groups to local parents
  • Tutoring
  • Helping during holidays
  • Helping facilitate Bully Proof Groups to schools/other organizations
  • Working one on one with single mothers on parenting issues
  • Helping with Back to School Fairs, Community Fairs, and Community Workshops

Please contact the Volunteer Ministries Coordinator for more information at nancy.mossman@pchas.org.

Foster Care Volunteers (Longview)

Foster children and their families in the Longview are in need of a variety of services that volunteers can provide. Individual volunteers and volunteer groups from area churches are needed to:

  • Assemble birthday and holiday bags for children
  • Send birthday and seasonal cards to children
  • Assemble welcome packs for children containing personal care items
  • Assist with Foster Parent training by providing set up help, food and/or child care
  • Assist with season activities (Back to School, Thanksgiving, Christmas)
  • Make “Life Books” for foster families to use together

Hours are flexible and some help can be provided from your home or church. Volunteer activities in which children are present will require training and background checks.

For more information, please contact one of the following:

Super Saturday Volunteers (Waxahachie)
Our Foster Care Program is recruiting volunteers to participate as supervisors and companions to foster children and teens during its four recreational days on the Waxahachie Campus. Called Super Saturdays, these days (April 21, May 19, June 23 and July 21) are designed to be fun, safe recreational days for foster children while their foster parents are participating in required annual training classes at the same location.

The volunteer opportunities are for individuals or church groups, especially older youth groups and college age groups. However, adults of all ages are welcome! Sign up soon! And please forward this to your friends! Click here to help or call 800-888-1904.

Kitchen Assistants (Waxahachie)
Volunteers are needed to help prepare, serve and clean up the community meal on the third Wednesday each month on the Waxahachie Campus. The meal is for the entire campus community, youth, house parents and support staff. It’s an opportunity for volunteers to interact with the campus community, get acquainted with individuals and help the community in an important way. Individuals may volunteer for one time or more. If an individual desires to make a regular or frequent commitment, participation in the volunteer application process is required. Volunteer groups of three to four persons are encouraged to apply for this opportunity. Click here to help or call 800-888-1904.

African-American Hairstyling (Austin)
If you can cut and style African-American hair, two teens in our care need your help! We will supply the products, but we need a volunteer with know-how and time. The need is about once every two months, for as long as it takes to work on their hair. Click here to help!
