Volunteer Needs

The following are requests from our programs for volunteers with specific skills. If you're interested in helping meet one of these needs, send an email toVolunteer Ministries Coordinator Nancy Mossman.

Super Saturday Volunteers (Waxahachie)
Our Foster Care Program is recruiting volunteers to participate as supervisors and companions to foster children and teens during its four recreational days on the Waxahachie Campus. Called Super Saturdays, these days (April 21, May 19, June 23 and July 21) are designed to be fun, safe recreational days for foster children while their foster parents are participating in required annual training classes at the same location.

The volunteer opportunities are for individuals or church groups, especially older youth groups and college age groups. However, adults of all ages are welcome! Sign up soon! And please forward this to your friends! Click here to help or call 800-888-1904.

Child & Family Volunteers (Houston)
Volunteers are needed to work with our Houston Child and Family Program. Specifically, a family of grandma and grandson living in west Houston near Cypress need support. The grandmother is in need of moral support from an adult volunteer who can call at least once a week to check on her and listen to her concerns. The volunteer will also be in relationship with the Child and Family Specialist who will supervise and support the relationship between the volunteer and the grandmother. The nine-year-old grandson needs a male volunteer mentor who could provide friendship and recreational activities two or three times a month and a phone call once a week. The grandson is challenged because of previous abuse, abandonment by his mother and the lack of any male role models. Click here to help or call 800-888-1904.

Piano Teacher (San Antonio)
A volunteer piano/music teacher is needed to work with a 17-year-old male who lives at the San Antonio campus of Presbyterian Children’s Homes and Services, 6355 Whitby Road. This young man has taught himself to play the piano and the saxophone and is musically gifted. He needs a teacher/mentor who can encourage him and help him increase his skills. Click here to help or call 800-888-1904.

Kitchen Assistants (Waxahachie)
Volunteers are needed to help prepare, serve and clean up the community meal on the third Wednesday each month on the Waxahachie Campus. The meal is for the entire campus community, youth, house parents and support staff. It’s an opportunity for volunteers to interact with the campus community, get acquainted with individuals and help the community in an important way. Individuals may volunteer for one time or more. If an individual desires to make a regular or frequent commitment, participation in the volunteer application process is required. Volunteer groups of three to four persons are encouraged to apply for this opportunity. Click here to help or call 800-888-1904.

Physical Trainer (Austin)
One of our Austin programs seeks a volunteer who is a physical trainer, aerobics instructor or physically fit enough to work with teens and adult staff once a week or more to offer boot camp physical training experience. About six people would be in the group. Click here to help!

African-American Hairstyling (Austin)
If you can cut and style African-American hair, two teens in our care need your help! We will supply the products, but we need a volunteer with know-how and time. The need is about once every two months, for as long as it takes to work on their hair. Click here to help!
